Many people may recall the urban legend of the Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies that were sold for over $250 dollars. Well, we’re here today for National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day to take a stab at recreating this iconic recipe for the Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies!
The cookies were believed to be an urban legend because how could a cookie possibly melt in your mouth? It is possible by using a good amount of butter, chilling time, and taking the cookies out of the oven just before they are “done”. Our twist on the Infamous Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookie RECIPE
INGREDIENTS LIST
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened (or Coconut Oil)
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar, lightly packed
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (White Sugar)
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, shifted to a fine powder (it’s how they are so light and fluffy!)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (Milk chocolate chips will work too)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons instant espresso coffee powder (the secret ingredient!)
BAKING INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE THESE DELICIOUS COOKIES
- Preheat the oven to 300° F.
- Grab a medium bowl, and toss in the butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar in the bowl, then mix until combined. With an electric mixer on a low speed, toss in the wet ingredients; the egg and vanilla, until well combined and fluffy.
- In a smaller mixing bowl, mix the dry ingredients and sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add to the larger bowl while beating at a slow speed. Mix until combined. Stir in the chocolate chips. Then add in the secret ingredient of espresso powder, and mix until it is fully combined.
- Chill in the refrigerator for 30 mins.
- Grab a 9×13 baking sheet with some coconut oil (or a nonsticking spray) spread out on it. Using an ice cream scoop, drop the cookie dough onto the cookie sheet in balls about 3 inches apart. Gently press down on the dough with the back of a spoon to spread out the cookies. Place the cookies into the oven in batches and bake for about 20 minutes or until the cookies are nicely golden brown around the edges. Bake for a minute or two longer for a crispier cookie taste. Place on a wire rack to cook and enjoy these good cookies!

*Notes:
This fantastic cookie recipe is best done by following the directions closely. However, you can definitely add extra chocolate chips. If you’d like to make these an oatmeal cookie version simply use 1 1/2 cups flour with 1/2 old-fashioned oats (or oat flour) and add 2 Tablespoons more butter.
