This month’s BOLO Book is The Light, written and illustrated by Terry Werntz. As a reminder, BOLO books are books the Crew loved for the covers or books that resonated with the Crew.
This stunning book was crafted by Kimberly’s Papa, so this Crew member might be a bit biased, but I love how his talent shines through in each illustration, and the dedication of this book to his late wife, who died earlier this year.

The Light: A small town’s journey to finding its way home
Author: Terry Werntz
Genre: Children’s, Illustrated, Inspirational, Religious
In the small town of Darksville, shadows ruled the streets.
There were no smiles, laughter unheard of, and joy a distant memory.
Then one day, a light appeared.
This is the tale of how that light changed everything.
A Reader’s Opinion:
The Light by Terry Werntz is a recent release we stumbled upon while editing it (ha ha right?). It touched the Crew’s hearts as we flipped through the black and white illustrations of time gone by in an era where everything feels like it’s topsy-turvy. The Light, a Christian-based book for children, brought back to mind the reason for joy in the midst of what feels like utter chaos in the world.
All the illustrations in The Light were hand-drawn by the artist, Terry Werntz, over a period of ten years. When you look at them, you’ll have a sense of nostalgia, remembering snowball fights, a time when communities gathered together in the general store or soda fountain to talk and play together.
A great edition for any children’s library, or for a child who has trouble focusing, as this book is high contrast black and white with a larger font to help them read it more easily.
We believe this book will be a hit with those looking to get back to the reason for joy.
